Revd Maria Schleger
The Root of all Evil?
Speaker: Revd Maria Schleger
Wednesday 28th June 6.00 – 8.30pm
Fee: £25 (to include supper)
Why is money so difficult to talk or even think about in both Christian and psychoanalytic circles? Psychotherapists who work in private practice must confront this issue when they charge a fee. Spiritual Directors may well do the same. Using this as a starting point, I want to explore, from an analytic and theological perspective, notions of need, conflict and value which inhibit us in following Freud’s advice to, “treat … money matters with the same matter of fact frankness as … things relating to sexual life”.
This is another of our ‘EXPLORATIONS’ series of Seminar Suppers. On arrival you will be greeted with a glass of wine or alternative and we will then hear from our speaker. After sharing a simple meal, there will be a hosted discussion and question and answer session, or similar, on the topic of the evening.
Maria Schleger works in private practice as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist and supervisor. Prior to training at The Guild of Psychotherapists she did an MA in Psychoanalytic Studies at the Tavistock Clinic. Maria is interested in the work of Bion, Jung and Winnicott and in bringing together the insights of psychoanalytic and religious thinking, and is also an ordained minister in the Church of England, working mostly in Hackney and Tower Hamlets.
